Flamenco Holidays in Alhaurin el Grande
!!! Alhaurin Bookings close 2nd April !!!
Alhaurin el Grande is about 30 kms. from the capital city, Malaga. Although Alhaurin is only a short, twenty minute drive from Malaga Airport, there has been little impact from tourism. It is a charming, traditional,
whitewashed village set in the foothills of the Mijas Mountain range, with fantastic panoramic views across the mountains and the Guadalhorce Valley below. Alhaurin is ideally placed to explore the magnificent surrounding countryside and is within easy reach of the Mediterranean coast.
Throughout the year, the town celebrates several traditional events, the biggest of these being the annual Feria, held towards the end of May. This is the week we choose for our Flamenco Holiday. It is such a special week and we feel so privileged to have been accepted into such a warm and welcoming community.
Flamenco Dance or Guitar Classes
Included in the price of your holiday are 10 hours of
flamenco dance or
flamenco guitar classes for students
of all levels.

Student Performances
Each year (since 2002), our visiting Dance Course Students have had the wonderful experience of performing to local audiences during Feria Week.
We are already part of the annual programme!
The locals expect us to be there!
So bring your outfits, music and pre-prepared choreography if you want to take part. Performance is NOT compulsory, but please consider it! We need you!
We dance in the large Caseta of the Peña Flamenca and this is definitely an event for pre-recorded music at full volume! Short lively pieces are the order of the day here!

We also dance (usually 2 nights) in a smaller, more intimate venue - the Peña Flamenca Hargajiho. This would be a more suitable venue for experienced Flamenco Guitar Students to demonstrate their skills. If this is YOU, we will try to match you with a dance student to work on a short piece together, but please give us plenty of advanced warning!
Feria is party time.

When you arrive, you will find Alhaurin immersed in preparations for the Feria, which starts on Wednesday and goes on for the rest of the week. You can help if you like. Dance and Guitar Classes will be held in the morning/early afternoon, but when classes are finished for the day you are free to experience local life in the busy and friendly town, where you are surrounded by shops and restaurants galore. You might even like to take the bus to Malaga for a shopping trip, or go down to the coast for the afternoon.
Day Feria

The day Feria is held in and beside the town's central square. You can attend a Flamenco Mass, watch the parades and processions around the town, be entertained by professional bands, watch the performances from local groups, dance Sevillana or Rumba in the street, or even go along to the rodeo or bull-fight, which is on the Feria Ground.
Night Feria

The town has a special area reserved for the night Feria. Part of it is taken up by a traditional fairground with all the usual exciting rides. Along the sides of the Feria Ground are huge Casetas (tents).

The Municipal Caseta is the largest and is used for special events, such as election of the Feria Queen, Pasodoble and Sevillanas competitions, visiting professional performers. Other Casetas are hosted by various of the town's organisations and all have food, drink and entertainment available throughout the night.
All of the Casetas are open to the public and admission is free, but be warned - the Night Feria goes on into the early hours of the morning!
Finding your way around
As part of your itinerary, you will be given a map of Alhaurin, with locations of Dance Studio, Guitar Class, Hotel and Feria Ground clearly marked. Maps of Malaga and Mijas (picturesque 'white' village nearby) will also be provided, along with bus timetables to Malaga and other local towns worthy of a visit.
Where, exactly, is Alhaurin el Grande?
