The course is available only once a year and is arranged to coincide with the local Feria. This is a really special and unforgettable week and numbers are limited - so please - if you would like to join us,
book early!
To join the included Flamenco Guitar Course, you need to have at least some acoustic guitar playing experience, although not necessarily Flamenco. The group will be limited to a maximum of 4 students and within this number, the teacher is well able to accommodate different levels of ability.
Your amazing teacher for the guitar course is the accomplished solo player and accompanist, Gabriel Cabrera. Based in Malaga, Gabriel is originally from Alcala de los Gazules.
Past students have been thrilled by both the high quality of his teaching
and his generous, friendly and patient approach.
The Guitar Course is held at the Peña Flamenca (in the town centre), no more than a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The course will run for five days, 2 hours daily. It is expected that the time will be between 12.00 noon and 2.00 p.m, as previously (class timetable and programmes).
By the end of the course, you will have a great deal of material to take home with you. Gabriel speaks little English, but very much takes a "watch, listen and copy" approach to his teaching. He also provides you with written music in either manuscript or tab (according to your preference) and
recordings of your lesson content. This will keep you busy for months to come!
If you have previous Flamenco Guitar experience and are interested in trying your hand at accompaniment, we will try to match you with a dance student for practise sessions. You are welcome to sit in on, (and maybe play along with) the General Dance Class and there may be opportunities to play at our performances to local audiences.
7-day inclusive dance or guitar holiday courses in Almodóvar can be
arranged throughout the year for groups of any size.
For groups of a minimum
10 students, prices can be drastically reduced, so don't hesitate to contact us
for a quotation.
Your teacher for the guitar course is El Macareno. Born in 1962 in Almodóvar del Rio
(Cordoba), El Macareno learnt to play guitar at the age of 16 and began working with flamenco singers and dancers. Today, El Macareno is the Director of the Centro Municipal de Flamenco, Almodóvar del Rio where he teaches the art of flamenco to flamenco teachers and students around the world.
